I did not read the subtitle so I didn't go in knowing who the artist was, but a few images in I KNEW it was Robbie. Love his work and his process, he's a really inspiring artist to follow. His work and his videos convey a deep caring for his subjects. Glad to see him featured here!
Robbie has a very distinctive style that reminds me a bit of Ximeng Tu's work, where he's often pulled back quite a bit, but still keeping the frame taut. It conveys a grandness of scale that is really difficult to nail down. That's great you were able to tell it was his work that quickly, it shows how good of a photographer Robbie is! I find his videos very moving myself.
That's great Robbie's work helps inspire you to continue with your own projects, he's definitely a big inspiration for me too. I love photographing river valley areas, I've shot a bit along the Kanawha River as well as the Ohio River (specifically where it forms the border between Kentucky and Indiana).
Robbie Maynard is how I discovered Subjectively Objective, he mentioned it in one of his YouTube videos. He is one of my favorite modern photographers and has greatly influenced my own photographic work.

I really enjoy his YouTube and still think about a shot he got of a guy on a boat 👌 As someone who grew up in Alberta (now in BC) and has worked in oil & gas/construction my whole life it's so hard to want to fight for the environment while also knowing industry pays the bills. I always enjoyed Robbie's commentary on this juxtaposition.
Interesting documentary photography and a very important aspect of the world to photograph. Must be challenging sequencing these to have them working off each other.
I agree Randall, I think the social and environmental impacts (both positive and negative) of industrialization is a really important topic to photograph and discuss. Robbie photographs those locations with a lot of care, which I appreciate a lot! It was a little tricky to sequence this feature for sure, Robbie has a lot of good variance going on between his portraits, low horizon images, and closer detail/foliage-y photographs. I wanted to make sure nothing felt too jarring, but also not same-y either (ex. I tried to ensure the bridges and portraits were well-distributed throughout the sequence). I had a ton of fun putting this one together!
I love Robbie’s work. The stories his images tell of the wide social, environmental and health impacts of industrial contamination are important and will leave a legacy. A great feature.
