Me too! I was fortunate to have Sam student, he’s one of the most talented photographers I’ve ever encountered. Check out the Three Rings book of this work that I published earlier this year. I’m sure you’ll love it.
I completely agree Paul! It does, doesn’t it? That was the first thing I asked Sam about when he showed me these images, and it actually is a real pyrotechnics display.
Such a great project! I was so happy to see you publish his work, I had been following these images on Instagram for a little while, and I was always blown away by their intrigue and quality.
As someone who's a big fan of using flash in my own work, I find the ways he's using it to really transform them into something that only exists in a photograph really inspiring too.
The amazing flash use is one of the things that made me want to publish this book. Sam was using a 640 watt studio strobe powered by a battery in a backpack for this project.
Been a huge fan of Sam Gulliver’s work, especially this set. Great to see it getting recognized elsewhere!

Portrays so well this particular slice of American culture. Photo number one looks impossible, love it.

Yeah me too! Even for being fairly young, Sam has a super distinctive style already. Almost hyperrealistic and surreal at the same time.
That's a great way to describe it 😀

Some awesome use of flash by the look of it.
