Amazing as always! I am wondering if all those artists you feature shoot medium and large format? 4x5 is a consistent ratio in many of your posts. I am curious if this is the actual format or maybe a preferred crop among documentary photographers?

Thank you Jakub, much appreciated! I'm sure a lot of them do, but it's definitely a very popular crop for this style of photography too. I'd say that is probably derived from the fact the historically most photographers making this kind of work shot medium and large format. So even people shooting digital feel like the squarer rectangle (compared to 35mm that is) fits with their vision of how the work is supposed to look.

The 3x4 aspect ration of digital medium format (which isn't too far off 4x5) is also getting more popular as those cameras have become more widely available. They're also often sought out by contemporary photographers making documentary work for the same resolution based reasons that photographers have historically chose large and medium format cameras when making this style of work.
